Officers reported they were alerted by a individual who discovered a car in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Roughly fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.

Law enforcement state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then located numerous other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.

An important official stated the vandalism made him without words and required to be solved promptly.

"This act hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
