Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of characters who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party understands precisely where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a nasty environment.
- The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the group enter locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:
- Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and Wicander defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Explorers and Planners tables.
Fans can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
